881 John & Jennifer Nicks

Connections with Brighton and Hove : John Nicks and his sister Jenny were Brighton's best known amateur skaters in the years after the Second World War. They turned professional in 1953 and went on to win many ice skating championships together. They were world champion pairs skaters in that same year. John's parents Jack and Elsie ran Wisden's the sports shop in Duke Street, Brighton, and were related to John Wisden, the England cricketer who also founded the famous almanac. In 1961 John went to Los Angeles and became one of the world's leading trainers there. Jenny was a popular instructor at the old Sports Stadium in West Street before she turned professional. With John, she appeared in many ice shows all over the world. She was British professional lady champion in 1955 and 1956. She died of a heart attack aged 48 in 1980.

881 Dennis Trident - carried name since repaint into Brighton & Hove livery in November 2005. Repainted into Route 27 livery May 2011. Route 27 branding removed August 2013. Bus sold in April 2014. Names reappeared on ADL Enviro400 926 in March 2024.
