741 Graham Oulton

Connections with Brighton and Hove : Graham who was registered blind lived in Hangleton and was a guide dog owner and the chair of Brighton & Hove Guide Dogs where he had volunteered since 2014. His glaucoma gave him tunnel vision with a loss of peripheral vision and it was this that prompted his work in easing life for other sight impaired travellers as he would previously have worried about using the bus by himself in Brighton. Graham was an avid bus user and relied on the Talking Buses to make his travelling experience easier. He said “It’s tremendous getting on board a bus and hearing your stops”. The Helping Hand card has also been a contributing factor in making his and others journeys easier and travelling more accessible. Graham was foremost in promoting staff training on Brighton & Hove Buses to make life easier for all those with sight impairment. He volunteered every year on the Brighton & Hove Santa Bus.
