Connections with Brighton and Hove : Connection to Brighton; Raymond lived below the South Downs ridge at Westmeston, East Sussex and many of his writings used the Brighton area as background, famously his film ‘The Snowman’. He was born in Wimbledon in 1934 and studied at the Wimbledon School of Art and the Central School before National Service, where he trained as a draughtsman before enrolling at the Slade School of Fine Art. He was a prolific author and illustrator winning a number if literary and artistic awards, one of his short films had an introduction narrated by David Bowie. He taught at the Brighton School of Art (now University of Brighton) for over 25 years. He died in 2022 aged 88.
