Connections with Brighton and Hove : Although born in Worcestershire, Len’s family moved to Brighton in 1921, the family living in Russell Square and Powis Square with Len attending Crown Street School nearby, and later at Bedford Street School [now the New Venture Theatre]. After his family move to London in 1932 Len did not return to Brighton until 1965 where he lived in Hollingbury. He taught at Dorothy Stringer School for 15 years, retiring as head of history in 1980. Len was a strong supporter of left-wing causes and a committed Socialist, who for a time taught in what, was then East Germany where he met his wife Rita. He published three volumes of autobiography as well as a range of poetry.
