730 Ian SteedmanNames on the buses
Connections with Brighton and Hove : Ian Steedman was ‘Mr Sussex’! A passionate love of his home area led him to campaign tirelessly; he grew up in Hollingbury and lived latterly in Worthing, with his interests in all matters relating to Sussex. He was the instigator in 2006 of the campaign for a ‘Sussex Day’ - 16th June, St. Richard’s Day, the patron saint of Sussex, and his knowledge and love of the county towns, villages and varied landscapes shone through in his many letters to the Brighton Argus where Ian was a regular contributor. His good humour was a foil to the many ‘groans’ in the letters page. Ian had been a bus conductor for Brighton Corporation in the 1960s-70s and his love of bus transport was on a par with his passion for Sussex; as was his campaigning for the restoration of the Brighton Hippodrome. He died in 2023.
