Connections with Brighton and Hove : Muriel Hart (1924–2010), was born in 48 Grantham Road, Brighton in 1924 to a well-established Brighton family, her grandmother owned a fish & chip shop in Trafalgar Street and her father had a furniture shop nearby in Redcross Street. Muriel learnt to play the piano at 5 by a local teacher Dora Houghton. As a teacher Muriel taught music at Patcham Junior School for 20 years establishing school music there to such an extent that the first concert of the Brighton Youth Orchestra had 33 of the 80 musicians as ex-Patcham Junior pupils.
