550 Dennis PalmerNames on the buses
Connections with Brighton and Hove :
Dennis Palmer a well respected member of Brighton & Hove buses staff, had his name displayed on the bus for a month from April 2015, it was displayed from the day of his funeral.
Dennis joined the Company as a bus driver and then moved on to relief cashier/bus
stop maintenance and later on to cashier and machine maintenance and then chief
cashier. Dennis took pride in his work with the usual vigor and dedication that showed throughout the years along with his quick wit and larger than life character. Sadly, Dennis passed away on 26 March after losing his second battle with
cancer 10 years on.
On many occasions Dennis was known as a Class Act and his style and approach stayed with him even through the difficult times of his illness. He was widely known for his gallows humour and who was always willing to think outside the box.
The 550 bus was in readiness to transport his colleagues to his funeral on 17 April 2015 and it carried his name for several more weeks in recognition of his many achievements and outstanding contributions to the Company, which included his posthumous award. He will be missed by many who worked with him but due to his ‘gentle persuasiveness’ with management, he will be remembered for one of his many achievements and that was for the brand new cash machines in the depots and although he never saw them installed, he was shown the photographic evidence by Micky Ashdown.
Thank you to everyone who supported Dennis and contributed towards the ‘memory bricks’ at the
Martlets Hospice.
