Connections with Brighton and Hove : There have been few if any finer batsmen than Hobbs and none who was more modest about his achievements. During a career which was interrupted by the First World War Hobbs scored more first class runs and centuries than anyone else. He opened the batting for Surrey, and for England where his famous partner was Herbert Sutcliffe. He scored 100 of his centuries after reaching an age when most cricketers retired - 40. Hobbs ran a sports shop in London after giving up the game. Later he came to live in Hove and is buried in the cemetery off the Old Shoreham Road. There is a plaque on a house in Palmeira Avenue.

830 Dennis Trident - carried name since delivery in March 2000, originally on METRO Line 1 then METRO Line 7 from April 2004, repainted into new livery from August 2004. Metro 7 branding removed March 2008. March 2012 name transferred to new Volvo Gemini 430 on Route 1. Repainted into Regency livery July 2016. Repainted into new Regency livery June 2023.
