Connections with Brighton and Hove : It would be impossible now for one man to display his sporting talents in so many different arenas. Charles Burgess Fry held the world long jump record ands also appeared in an FA Cup Final. He also played rugby for Oxford, Blackheath and the Barbarians and could have played for England. At Oxford, he won 12 blues and captained the university at cricket, soccer and athletics in the same year. But his main passion was cricket. He captained both Sussex and England. Fry held several records including one for scoring the most centuries in a row. When he was captain of the national side, he never lost a Test. He had a colourful life outside sport and was once offered the throne of Albania. Fry wrote a novel, entered politics as a Liberal, wrote an autobiography and became an influential journalist. Going to Hollywood, he almost became a film star and met many of the top names there including Boris Karloff. He was also involved with Baden-Powell and the Scouts. He ran a training ship for youngsters and lived long enough to appear on TV.

829 Dennis Trident - carried name since delivery in March 2000, originally on METRO Line 1 then METRO Line 7 from April 2004 and into the new livery for METRO 7 from May 2004. In August 2008 repainted into standard livery. March 2012 name transferred to new Volvo Gemini 429 on Route 1.
