825 Peter Stocker

Connections with Brighton and Hove : Peter Stocker was a founder member of the traders’ association for the North Laine area of Brighton. With colleagues, he helped transform a rather run down area of shops between Brighton Station and North Street into one of the city’s top attractions. It all happened when North Laine was made a conservation area by Brighton Council after roads plans which would have ruined it were shelved. Peter Stocker, known to all as Peter the Potter, had a studio in Trafalgar Street. He spent an enormous amount of time banding the traders together and getting the message across that North Laine was a fun place to shop and to relax in cafes. He was also a member of the community association, a leading light in the Brighton and Hove Business Forum and a governor of City College which is based nearby. With his family, he moved to Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in 2009 and died there in 2016. Scores of friends held a meeting in Brighton to remember him and to celebrate his life
