Connections with Brighton and Hove : The Barnetts, who lived in Whitechapel, also established the Children's Country Holiday Fund (1884) and the Whitechapel Art Gallery. But she was best known for her ideas of the model housing development at Hampstead Garden suburb. She also managed to protect Hampstead Heath at the turn of last century from development. Created a Dame in 1924, she also founded a school which bears her name in Barnet, North London. For many years she had a home in Hove (marked by a plaque in Wish Road). She once said that her heart was uplifted every time she came to the coast by train and saw the Downs approaching. She died in 1936.
