Connections with Brighton and Hove : Connections to Brighton & Hove Godfrey was actively involved in the life of the Jewish community in the city, joint author of the Jewish History of Brighton & Hove, a prominent contributor to historical journals and a passionate lover of steam trains and…buses! He was even pictured on the side of a Brighton & Hove bus as part of a campaign called ‘On the Bus’. Godfrey was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, read geography at Durham University, taught in secondary schools across Britain and went on to be Deputy Director of Human Resources at East Sussex County Council in Lewes. As a mature student (65) and living in Hove he took a Diploma in Landscape Studies at the University of Sussex.
