Connections with Brighton and Hove : Mervyn Stedman (1949-2024), A life long transport enthusiast, Mervyn had an amazing memory for detail such as which bus carried which adverts and for the history and developments of bus routes in the Brighton area. He was a long-time stalwart member of a number of organisations dedicated to the study of local transport such as the Southdown Enthusiasts' Club, East Sussex Omnibus Society, Sussex Transport Interest Group and The Tramway and Light Railway Society. His working life was all spent with Barclays Bank and he worked at a number of branches/offices in East and West Sussex. He was popular with customers and colleagues alike and was always prepared to go the extra mile to give good service. He was a published author, his book 'Around Brighton by Trolleybus' which was published in 2021 and is considered to be definitive. In it he provides several reminiscences and historical photographs of transport in the Brighton area. He persuaded his father to take him to see the last trolleybus journey in 1961 when he was 12 and was still following local developments in the local scene such as the new route 1X right up to his death in 2024.
