Connections with Brighton and Hove : Buses were a central feature in the life of Reginald Noyce, a Brighton man. He started working in 1934 for Brighton Corporation which ran its own fleet of buses and trams in the town. Noyce joined the Army when the Second World War broke out and he was among several thousand men evacuated from Dunkirk. Returning to work at the Lewes Road depot after the war, Noyce was among the top workers. He was a man who knew a great about buses and was much respected by his colleagues. Noyce was a skilled electrician who used his expertise on trolleybuses which replaced trams just before the war. When diesel buses took over from the trolleys in 1961, he was equally proficient with them. He was appointed an assistant manager and died while at work in 1983 after nearly fifty years’ service.
